Beaches lead the way for Vietnamese travelers this Lunar New Year as travelers head to tourist hotspots to ring in the year of the Tiger, according to booking data from digital travel platform, Agoda.
Nationally, the data shows beaches as top destination choices, including Phu Quoc (#1), Nha Trang (#3), Vung Tau (#4), Phan Thiet (#5), Danang (#7) and Quy Nhon (#8) occupying six of the top eight destinations. Mountain retreat Dalat (#2) and HCMC (#6) occupy the other two top slots.
Travelers from Vietnam maintain their preference for 4-5 star accommodation for their trips, seemingly seeking out high-end resorts in the nation’s stunning beaches, or a luxury hilltop retreat in a resurgent Dalat.

Asia wide, the data shows metropolitans and capital cities as top destination choices, including Shanghai (#1 China), Tokyo (#1 Japan), Kuala Lumpur (#1 Malaysia), Manila (#1 Philippines), Bangkok (#1 Thailand). While in other markets, classic resort destinations are travelers’ top picks, including Bali (#1 Indonesia), Jeju Island (#1 Korea), Taichung (# Taiwan), Phu Quoc Island (#1 Vietnam).

Data is based on Agoda’s booking data, collected on 13 January 2022, with comparable check-in dates as first day of Lunar New Year for each respective year – 1 February 2022 and 12 February 2021 (collected on 10 January 2021).
