Building on 80 years of global luxury hospitality and expanding into new destinations across one of Asia’s fastest growing travel markets.
As InterContinental Hotels & Resorts celebrates its 80th anniversary, IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) is reaffirming its long-term commitment to Vietnam, one of Asia’s fastest-growing travel markets.
Today, InterContinental is Vietnam’s largest luxury hotel brand with nine award-winning InterContinental hotels and resorts and more than 2,500 rooms across the country. Building on nearly two decades of presence, the brand is set to expand further with four new properties in emerging destinations, supporting the country’s ambitions as a leading tourism destination.
Vivek Bhalla, Managing Director, South East Asia & Korea, IHG Hotels & Resorts said: “Vietnam is one of the most exciting hospitality markets in Asia today. Its strong tourism fundamentals, growing domestic affluence and increasing appeal among international travellers continue to create significant opportunities for long-term growth.
“Vietnam has emerged as one of IHG’s best-performing markets in Asia Pacific with RevPAR (Revenue per available room) at +20% in the second quarter of 2026. The luxury hospitality sector across the country was at 21.1% , outperforming the national hotel average by USD$73 per available room, and reflecting the demand for higher end experiences amongst travellers.”
Vietnam welcomed 12.3 million international arrivals in the first half of 2026, representing year-on-year growth of almost 15% with more than 70% of arrivals from Asia. Domestic travel reached 81 million domestic trips in the first half of 2026, highlighting the growing spending power and travel aspirations of the Vietnamese consumer.
“Coastal destinations and beach resorts such as Danang, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc continue to be the most popular choices for Vietnamese travellers, with Vietnamese families representing the largest source market for many InterContinental resorts across the country,” Vivek added.
To meet the needs of today’s luxury travellers, InterContinental recently completed a comprehensive global evolution programme, blending its rich heritage with contemporary design, wellness, culinary innovation and destination-led experiences.
“Luxury today is defined by authentic experiences, cultural immersion and meaningful connections,” said Vivek. “InterContinental’s evolution reflects this shift. Whether through wellbeing-focused offerings, destination-inspired occasions or the expertise of our Cultural Insiders, we are creating richer and more personalised ways for guests to connect with the world around them.”
InterContinental’s journey in Vietnam began in 2007 with the opening of InterContinental Hanoi Westlake. Over the past 19 years, the brand has established a market-leading position in luxury hospitality with properties in Hanoi, Ho Tram, Danang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc and Halong Bay.
Looking ahead, IHG plans to further strengthen InterContinental’s leadership position through a pipeline of landmark projects, opening in new destinations including Thanh Xuan Valley in Phu Tho, Saigon Can Gio, Sapa and Dalat in the next three to five years. The company also continues to explore future opportunities in key gateway and resort locations such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Nha Trang and Ho Tram.
“The growth of InterContinental is part of our broader strategy to build a world-class portfolio across every segment of travel in Vietnam,” Vivek said. “Alongside the expansion of InterContinental, we see opportunities in expanding our branded residences offering through InterContinental and Regent, accelerating growth in the midscale segment with Holiday Inn Express and Garner, and over time introduce new brands such as Kimpton and Staybridge Suites to the market.
“As InterContinental celebrates its 80th anniversary, we are not only reflecting on a remarkable legacy but also looking ahead to the next chapter of growth. Vietnam is a key market for IHG and we see tremendous opportunities to work alongside our ownership groups to develop world class experiences and concepts for the next generation of luxury travellers.
“With new destinations, new experiences and a growing portfolio, we remain committed to delivering the culturally rich, globally connected experiences that have defined InterContinental for the past 80 years while supporting Vietnam’s continued tourism growth as one of Asia’s leading travel destinations.”
