According to digital travel platform Agoda’s 2026 Travel Outlook Report, the key for markets looking to grow visitation from Vietnamese travelers is facilitating easier visa access to their markets.
Vietnam, with its fast growing middle-class is looking to travel to new frontiers. According to Agoda’s survey, 91% of local respondents indicated that less visa restrictions and easier access to new nations would see their travel frequency increase.
58% of Vietnamese travelers in Agoda’s study also indicated that removing visa restrictions would see them plan to visit new countries and destinations, with six out of ten respondents saying that visa statuses do or may impact their travel plans.
Henley’s passport power index ranks the Vietnamese passport 89th in 2025, with 50 countries offering visa free entries for its holders – an indication of huge potential for markets looking to expand their Vietnamese visitor base. Unsurprisingly, local travel dominates the study with 50% saying that they would prioritize traveling domestically rather than internationally, a rise from 26% last year.
Beyond ease of visa access, Vietnamese travelers also emerged as the region’s top value seekers when it comes to accommodation, with over nine out of ten respondents setting a 2.600.000 VND ceiling on their nightly spend. This includes 56% looking for rooms below 1.300.000 VND and 36% looking between 1.300.000 VND and 2.600.000 VND per night.
When it comes to travel preferences and motivations, relaxation leads the way for Vietnamese travelers, with 45% of respondents looking at their vacations as prime chill-time, while culture and cuisine come in second and third respectively. 43% of survey-takers cited authentic cultural experiences and 35% said they were booking their trips with their tastebuds in mind – offering a key insight to destinations looking to appeal to Vietnam’s traveling public in 2026.
