With Vietnam’s record heatwave now in the rear-view mirror, digital travel platform Agoda has looked into the way in which Vietnamese travelers sought solace from the sizzling temperatures of the past few months. Agoda identified a 12% increase in overall domestic search traffic among Vietnamese travelers during the month of April, which could in part be attributed to travelers seeking refuge from the month’s record-breaking heat.
The data reveals a clear trend towards coastal and mountainous destinations for searches with check-ins in April 2024, with beach and hill-station getaways comprising 80% of the top 10 searches.
In the face of sweltering heat, Agoda’s data highlights Vung Tau and Phan Thiet as the most popular destinations, taking the lead in search activity that focuses primarily on coastal escapes. This pattern underscores a national inclination towards shoreline leisure, with Da Nang and Nha also ranking high due to their breezy beach options. Conversely, the cooler environments of Dalat have proven equally enticing, drawing those who prefer the respite of higher elevations.
Lam Vu, Country Director Vietnam at Agoda, shared, “Our data clearly reflects the resilience and adaptability of Vietnamese travelers during extreme weather conditions. The preference for beach and mountain destinations indicates a desire for comfort and a break from the extraordinary heat, affirming the importance of dynamic domestic travel options.”
The inclination towards these destinations not only sheds light on current travel behaviors but also aligns with broader trends showing an increased interest in domestic travel. This trend towards local explorations is revitalizing domestic tourism, providing a boost to local economies and showcasing the nation’s rich diverse landscapes.
Agoda remains committed to facilitating these explorations, providing a wide range of accommodations, flights, and activities, ideal for those seeking a hassle-free escape to cooler climates or a sunny beach amid Vietnam’s heatwave.
