Who would consider these rural children as poor if they looked at the natural beauty of these emotionally innocent photos?
The children, though lacking in material substance, are blessed with trees and other natural wonders. In the past, buffalos were a significant asset for farmers, but over time as the villages changed with economic development and machine-based agriculture, the buffalos were no longer “the industry standard”. With children now focused on learning, it’s become rare to encounter scenes of children raising buffaloes in the field.
It was events like these that motivated Vu Anh Dzung to go out in search of a peaceful countryside setting, scenes that would trigger his childhood memories. Dzung said that every weekend, he took his camera and wandered about the countryside to find and capture moments remindful of his peaceful past. He realized that rural children were often happier than those in the city because they can easily grasp moments of fun in the water, or riding buffalo — moments unencumbered by complexity.
