Lilia Vu defeated Andrea Lee with a score of 4&2 in the LPGA Match Play 2022 third place match.
At the LPGA Match Play 2022 taking place at Shadow Creek, Lilia Vu stopped in the semifinals after losing to Ayaka Furue. The Vietnamese female golfer entered the dramatic 3rd place match with Andrea Lee.
Lilia Vu continuously took the lead, but Andrea Lee quickly brought the match back to the balance. In the end, Lilia Vu showed her bravery by winning with a score of 4 & 2 and won 3rd place. This is also the third time the 24-year-old golfer has finished in the top 10 in the 2022 season, after the T-8 JTBC Classic and T-10 LA Open.
“I think I’m in a good state of play, I will try to maintain my form to move towards the U.S. Women’s Open“, Lilia Vu said.
Lilia Vu’s Vietnamese name is Vu Kha Tu, she was born in 1998 in Fountain Valley, California. Practicing golf since the age of 7, Lilia Vu has participated in many large and small tournaments in the US since she was a teenager. The Vietnamese-born female golfer was named on the world amateur rankings at the age of 12. In March 2018, Lilia Vu became the No.1 female amateur golfer in the world after winning the Bruin Wave Invitational at the end of February 2018.
One year after becoming the world’s number one amateur golfer, a new turning point came for Lilia Vu, she officially became a professional golfer, competing on the LPGA Tour. Lilia Vu has won the official competition card at the LPGA Tour season 2019 after passing the Q-Series qualifying system that ended in early November 2018. In 2021, the Vietnamese-born female golfer also led the Symetra Tour earnings ranking with $162,292.
Not only famous in junior tournaments, Lilia Vu also participated in prestigious major tournaments for women such as the U.S. Women’s Open, ANA Inspiration, Evian Championship. The female golfer of Vietnamese origin once passed the U.S. Women’s Open 2015 and ranked 40th at ANA Inspiration 2018.
